No Somali style pirates in Golfo Dulce, but common sense safety precautions are taken by sailors and boaters in the bay of Pavones, the larger Golfo Dulce and the port of Golfito (8°38.16'N, 83°10.0'W), as in all Costa Rican ports.

Most visiting vessels anchor near the Cantina in Pavones, where watchful eyes can be on alert.

New to the surfing and SUP world, but surely gripped already with the fever for the latter as I SUP 7 days /week now, I saw today what I believe to be amazing. And amazing on many fronts.

I am well aware of the new tension that exists in some places between classic style surfers and SUP surfers.

It is as if I.C.E. has not made it difficult enough for the new cellular operators to begin in Costa Rica.  Now, the new companies -- Claro and Movistar -- have to get individual building permits for every cellular tower they want to build from the web of municipalities that control Costa Rica construction.  We'll still be walking around Pavones saying "hello, hello, can you hear me?" into our cell phones, at least for a while.

Evolution From a School to Pavones' Community Center

The wonderful, little school in Pavones that was started by two beautiful, intelligent and brave young ladies, named Haley Whitley and Raphel Weber, continues to fulfill its mission bringing communities together through education. I have been honored to take on the role of administrating the school in their absence.

I was blessed to be part of the birthing of this school, first with my daughter participating in some homeschooling classes, then second, with myself taking on the English classes for the children.  Later, we added bilingual classes to include both English and Spanish and found it quite fascinating and fulfilling to watch the two cultures mingle and help each other learn!

New School Year Begins February 10 in Pavones and throughout Costa Rica

Up to 1 million students will begin the new school year on Thursday, February 10; in Pavones too, students are getting ready for the new school year at the elementary schools in Cuervito, Cocal Amarillo, Pavones, La Hierba, Santa Ana, Punta Banco, and Burica, and the high school in Comte.

Families must supply their children with a long list of items, in addition to uniforms and specialized booklets. Visitors are always welcome to bring some of these supplies to benefit local schools:
